ERNEST E. HALLIGAN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Ernie Halligan on March 29, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81.
Ernie was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Kathleen, brother George, sisters Marion Cooper and Doris Brennan and brothers-in-law Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan and in-laws, Herb and Mary Sielski.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Judith (nee Sielski), daughters Kathryn Halligan and Jen MacDougall, and grandchildren Declan and Kaylyn MacDougall. Also surviving him is his treasured cat, Leechi. Ernie's wife, children, grandchildren, and fur baby meant the world to him, and he would do anything for them. In return, Ernie meant the world to all of them. Ernie is also survived by his brothers Don (Karen); Gary (Debra), his sister-in-law Carol Halligan and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie grew up mostly in the west end of Winnipeg and joined Chambers Fraser as an articling CA student on September 1, 1962. He graduated in 1968, became a partner in 1972, and remained with this firm for 63 years.
Ernie was loyal to his family, friends, colleagues, and his community. Ernie was on the initial board of The Winnipeg Airport Authority assisting with the development of the first 60-year lease and was also a proud member of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg West for over 40 years.
Special thanks to family and friends who were so supportive during this difficult time, and to the doctors and nurses at Grace, Victoria, and St. Boniface Hospitals.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ernie's memory to the Rotary Club of Winnipeg West, Golden Rainbow Fund, c/o The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 - One Lombard Place, Winnipeg MB R3B 0X3 or at https://www.mycharitytools.com/gift/ wpgfdn/donate?fund=665
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In honour of Ernie, if you wish, you are welcome to wear Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, or Rotary clothing.
